Expansion of the Chronic Property Offending Intervention Initiative Strengthens Community Safety
VANCOUVER, BC — The British Columbia Association of Chiefs of Police (BCACP) welcomes the Province’s continued investment in community safety through the expansion of the Chronic Property Offending Intervention Initiative (C-POII).
“Repeat property offending and street disorder continue to place significant demands on frontline policing and community safety resources across British Columbia,” said Deputy Chief Constable Andrew Chan, President of the BCACP.
“Initiatives like C-POII recognize that long-term improvements require coordinated responses between police, corrections, health care, prosectors and community-based services to ensure higher-risk individuals are more consistently monitored and connected to appropriate supports. BCACP supports approaches that help achieve safer communities through practical, integrated, evidence-informed intervention strategies.”
The expansion of C-POII builds on collaborative intervention models already underway in several communities across the province, including the Repeat Violent Offending Intervention Initiative (ReVOII). It strengthens regional capacity through more timely interventions, enhanced case coordination, and improved information sharing involving individuals engaged in repeat offending and chronic public disorder.
Through the expanded provincial network, up to 865 repeat offenders across British Columbia will receive enhanced monitoring and coordinated support, strengthening collaborative responses to complex public safety challenges.
The BCACP remains committed to working alongside the Province, police agencies, health-care partners, corrections, prosecutors, and community organizations to advance collaborative strategies that improve community safety while supporting more sustainable outcomes for individuals involved in chronic offending.
