Ben Hitchcock

Ben Hitchcock is a Senior Investigator with over 27 years in the Royal Canadian Mounted Police.
Starting his service in patrol/investigations in Richmond, BC and Pond Inlet, Nunavut. From there he moved to Digital Forensics serving in the Integrated Technological Crime Unit (BC) for 14 years. Ben provided digital forensic support for many crime types including Child Sexual Exploitation, Homicides, Federal and National Security Operations. The last position Ben held was the NCO i/c of National Security/Federal Operations and Cybercrime Investigations, which provided both technical and investigational experience.
Ben’s current assignment is with Canada’s National Cybercrime Coordination Centre (NC3) and he is Canada’s Cybercrime Liaison Officer to the Joint Cybercrime Action Taskforce (J-CAT) at Europol, The Hague, Netherlands.
Ben holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science and a Master’s Degree in Forensic Computing and Cybercrime Investigations. He was instrumental in the creation of the Digital Field Triage Program within Canada, and authored a paper on this initiative that was published for the Digital Forensics Research Workshop (Europe).
To follow the ethos of J-CAT, Ben believes that “No one Country can fight Cybercrime alone”.
Cybercrime knows no boundaries, only by working together across all sectors, both domestically and internationally, will we be able to bring those responsible to justice.

Sophia began her career in law enforcement in 2006 as a student Border Services Officer with Canada Border Services Agency. In 2009, Sophia completed degrees in Criminology, Anthropology, and Archaeology and began working with the Royal Canadian Mounted Police.
Sophia has worked as an Open Source Intelligence Analyst with Federal Policing Pacific Region Drugs and Organized Crime, since 2018, where she uses open source information to provide investigators with possible new avenues of investigation on files related to drugs and transnational organized crime.

Kailey Skemp

Kailey began her career in law enforcement with the Organized Crime Agency of BC with Combined Forces Special Enforcement Unit-BC (CFSEU-BC) in 2018, and completed a degree in Criminology in 2021. Kailey has worked with the CFSEU-BC Open Source Section as an Open Source Analyst since 2023, where she provides open source intelligence information on individuals associated to the BC Gang Conflict and Outlaw Motorcycle Gangs to law enforcement agencies across Canada, and internationally.
Kailey has previously worked with the Crime Guns Intelligence and Investigation Group as an Open Source Analyst, and the Joint Illegal Gaming Investigation Team, the Anti-Trafficking Task Force, and the Covert Asset Support Team, as an Investigative Assistant. Kailey has delivered presentations to various local investigational units and international police forces on how to be aware of online safety, and youth and gang social trends.
